Our Aims

Medway Branch of KFHS aims to help members discover and compile their family history. We actively welcome new members to join the fifty or so who regularly attend our meetings. Invariably there will be someone at a branch meeting who will have the answer to your research query, or ways and means of surmounting it.

What the Branch does

Medway branch of KFHS holds regular monthly meetings with speakers on a variety of Family and Local History subjects on the last Thursday of the month at 2:30-4:30pm at Frindsbury Parish Hall

We occasionally run beginners courses in conjunction with the Medway Archives & Local Studies Centre. (MALSC

On Tuesdays and Thursdays between 09:30am-12:00noon we provide a rota of volunteers at MALSC to help with family history queries.

We work with Medway Crematorium to index burial and cremation records.

We help man KFHS stands at local and national family history fairs and shows.

In 2015 we completed a long term project to index all the old birth, death and marriage registers held by Medway Register Office and the cemetery burial registers held by Medway Council.  To acknowledge the work, volunteers, and partners, were invited to an afternoon tea  attended by Cllr Rupert Turpin portfolio holder for Registrations and Bereavement Services, which was laid on at the Register Office in the marriage room.  Superintendent Registrar James Brown presented each of the volunteers with a fountain pen and a certificate making them Honorary Deputy Superintendent Registrars or Honorary Cemetery Registrars
